Level 1 ASI Surfing Instructor Course Information

The role of the surfing instructor.
Identifying laws and regulations that apply to conducting surfing lessons.
Client management and safety.
Identifying surfing lesson risks and hazards.
Emergency processes and responses.
Logistics and how to plan surfing sessions.
Suitable boards, equipment and resources.
Communication skills for the surfing environment.
Instruction and coaching methods.
Creating lesson plans.
Assessing students performance.
Evaluating surfing lessons.
Minimising environmental impacts (social & natural).
Abide by student to instructor ratios: maximum of 8 students to 1 accredited instructor.

Perform top and bottom turns with spray, re-entry and cutback in 3ft surf. First Aid and Lifeguard Certificate.

Level 2 ASI Surfing Instructor Course Information

    • Advanced level surfing criteria and competencies.
    • Advanced level surfing coaching risks and hazards
    • Factors affecting surfing dynamics and performance.
    • Manoeuvres performed at the advanced level.
    • The mechanics of advanced level surfing manoevure.
    • Assessing advanced level surfing performance.
    • Identify drills to improve performance.
    • Prepare individualised coaching sessions & programs.
    • Prepare group coaching sessions & programs.
    • Conduct effective video analysis.
    • Evaluate coaching plans to determined effectiveness.

Pre-Requisites:
Hold L1 ASI Surf Instructor, First Aid and Lifeguard certificate and have advanced level surf skills, including roundhouse cut-back, floater, snap, vertical re-entry, tube ride, in surf up to 6ft (2 metres) at different surf breaks.
